Last modified: March 15, 2012

Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues (“RISC,” “our,” or “we”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) applies to our website located at the domain risctraining.org (the “Website”) and describes the procedures we employ regarding the collection, use and disclosure of information that we gather through the Website.

1. What information about you is collected through the Website?

We collect, or third parties may collect on our behalf, information that identifies you or can be used to contact you (“Personally Identifiable Information”) – such as your name, title, street address, email address, telephone and facsimile numbers, organization, field of journalism, news agency affiliations, areas of experience, and credit card information – only if you voluntarily provide it. Such information is gathered when, for example, you sign up for our email updates, donate to RISC through our Website, pre-register for RISC training, or when, if you are accepted for RISC training, you provide such information in connection with your participation.

We may also use web beacons, cookies or other tracking technologies to collect information about your usage of the Website, such as your browser information, the frequency of your visits and other similar data.

2. How do we use and disclose your information?

We use Personally Identifiable Information for RISC’s organizational purposes, such as to provide and improve the Website and to communicate with you about RISC and our programs, including course offerings. Additionally, we may share Personally Identifiable Information with our affiliated organizations, other businesses and individuals performing functions on RISC’s behalf (such as credit-card processing), governmental authorities only in accordance with subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes (such disclosure may be done without notice to you), and, if you consent, with others, such as charitable organizations or business partners that may be of interest to you.

If you make a donation or participate in any RISC training events, we may ask for your consent to publish your name on the Website or in other RISC materials.

We may also use information we collect about your usage of the Website to provide and improve our Website, to analyze such Website usage, to recognize you when you return to our Website, to customize our Website according to your individual use, and for other similar purposes.

3. Does this Privacy Policy apply to third-party websites?

Except as provided herein, this Privacy Policy does not apply to the collection and use of any information gathered by or through any third-party websites, including any websites to which the Website links. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of third-party websites to understand what policies apply to their collection and use of information.

4. Is the information we collect secure?

We use SSL and encryption when you transmit credit card data to us. Because no security measures are completely effective, we cannot ensure or guarantee the security of any Personally Identifiable Information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. If we provide you with registration information, such as a username and password, to access or share information on the Website, you are responsible for keeping such registration information private and secure.

5. How can you update, correct or delete Personally Identifiable Information?

You may contact us in writing at the email address or physical address below in order to update, correct or delete your Personally Identifiable Information. Because of the need to back up our systems to protect information from inadvertent loss, and for other legitimate business reasons or legal purposes, we might not be able to delete every instance of your Personally Identifiable Information. Any updates, corrections or deletions that you request will not affect any information that we have already provided, prior to your request, to third parties in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
